Project Magnify aims to bringing STEM careers to low socio-economic schools who may have never been exposed to the epic careers in science, including palaeontology or crime investigation.
Working with volunteer organisation Archdoc, myself and fellow Superstar of STEM Priscilla Thwaites, created a dynamic and interactive presentation for students under the theme of ‘Mysteries Uncovered’. We first discussed how we can use small clues from fossils to learn about dinosaur species, then explored how artefacts can be the keys to the ancient past, before Priscilla drew upon her experience as a forensic invenstigator to explore how we use clues to solve crimes!
Coming from a rural school myself where we were never exposed to STEM careers, I was excited to take part in this event and show kids that being a scientist is not only possible, but great fun too!
