Digging Dinosaurs in Canada
📍Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta, Canada
📅 July 2023
Earlier in 2023 I was very lucky to be able to work travel to Dinosaur Provincial Park in Canada with a collegeue from the University of New England, and work with teams from the University of Reading (UK), and the Royal Tyrrell Museum (Canada) to do some fieldwork - looking for new dinsosaur fossils, and excavating some known dinosaur skeletons!
This two week dig was a part of the requirements for students studying palaeontology at the University of Reading. Having recently finished my own Master of Research in Palaeontology, I was able to come along for the ride and get some more field experience, learning skills in excavation, recording, photography, and fossil transport. I also made myself the unoffical videographer for the group, and was able to document some of the amazing experiences and finds we had.
From dodging rattlesnakes, excavating a MUMMIFIED dinosaur with skin still intact, visiting the behind-the-scenes collections at the Royal Tyrrell, and even finding a dinosaur skeleton of my own, this was a dream come true for any dinosaur palaeontologist!
