Superstars of STEM - Science & Technology Australia
Superstars of STEM is a national program that aims to elevate the public profiles of females scientists with the aim of smashing gender assumptions and sterotypes, showing that anyone can do science, and providing diverse role models for the next generation of students and scientists across Australia.
Within this program, I’ve been able to attend events like Science Meets Parliament, where we were able to discuss our research and the need for female role models with parlimentarians. We’ve also undertaken significant media training, learning how to pitch our research and ideas to a vast array of audiences, learning how to do TED Talks, how to maximise our social media profiles, and how best to connect with people across Australia.
My favourite part of the program is getting to visit schools, doing talks, running workshops, and sitting on panels to share my experiences and adventures in STEM. It was this part of the program that led me to creating this website and furthering my reach to travel to rural schools and get students excited about science.
