Animal Adaptations at Artarmon Public School
This session integrated the Animal Features section of the Australian Cirriculum into a fun and interaction lession with over 200 Year 5 students from Artarmon Public! Drawing on my expertise as a palaeontologist, we focussed on Australian megafauna, dinosaurs, and other fossils from around the world to learn how animals are adapted to their environments, how features may change over time, and how we can go about identifying function when sometimes all we have is a single bone or tooth!
Students were able to interact with real fossils, and by the end of the session, students were fluent in identifying features, their functions, and how adaptations may help or hinder both prehistoric, and modern animals in their past or future survival
