Sydney Fringe Festival: Science Comedy show

πŸ“The Bank, Newtown

πŸ“… September 2023

Working with the Sydney Comedy School and Future Science Talks, myself and 5 other scientists jazzed up our science research talks to be palatable to a public audience, making them accessible, relevant, and hilarious!

No science knowledge needed for these awesome talks from scientist around Sydney! Myself and other 30 scientist all worked with David Crisante, founder of Future Science Talks and Sydney Comedy School, as well as comedian Seaton Kay-Smith, to make our science engaging, understandable, and memorable by using jokes and humour to connect with our pub audiences!

As so many academics only ever publish or do talk for other academics, this was a spectacular way to get out of our comfort zones and talk about our experiences to people who may have never even heard about our fields before!

For me, this included discussions on the ethics of Indiana Jones, the sterotypes of palaeontology (Ross from Friends anyone?), and some of the results from the Found a Fossil project, as well as the interesting inquiries people send me about their finds - from dinosaur footprints, to human finger bones! (Luckily that last one just turned out to be a rock).
